About the Hadiyya language

Hadiyya, also known as Adea, Adiya, Adiye, Hadia, Hadiya, Hadya, is a language of Ethiopia with over 1,400,000 users in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ region: Gurage, Hadiyya, and Kambaata zones, between Omo and Billate rivers, Hosaina town area; Oromia region: east Shewa zone.

Its dialects include Leemo and Soro and has a lexical similarity with Libido, Alaba-kabeena, Kambaata and Sidamo.

Hadiyya is Under preparation to be taught as a major at university level. Taught in primary schools in grades 1–4 as the medium of instruction, in grades 5–10 as a subject.
